on my way to a meeting yesterday I say someone who somehow was gifted the breakdown lane as their own personal autobahn . I’m guessing he was doing 90 mph in a 60 mph zone . As he approached the next off r amp a Silverado went to exit, not checking what was coming up behind him and cut off the jackass. I’m guessing the speeder beeped becaus e the S ilverado s werved and almost lost control.

enjoy my crappy diagram

Everyone knows that left lane  is for slow traffic and everything to the right gets progressively faster.

Maybe drunk and thought that was actually a lane? Or some crazy emergency or ‘emergency’

This is Massachusetts, most traffic is in the middle lane, slightly faster traffic is in the left lane, the fastest and slowest traffic are both in the right lane, but it’s mostly empty except at rush hour (fast drivers will make unsafe merges into the middle lane to dodge the slow traffic), and the weirdos are in the breakdown lane, sometimes legally because the state has odd ideas about what’s safe on the highway.

when the br eak down lane is open for traffic the right lane is certainly the fastest moving lane. and yes, that whole concept is fucked up but apparently its better that way than building another lane

I like to think of myself as an attentive driver, but man I dunno if I would have looked before exiting either. That shoulder is just n ot a reasonable place to expect traffic to be coming from (the only valid exception being emergency vehicles, who 99% of the time would be passing on the left anyway, expecting you to pull over to the right).

Speaking of expectations , the speeder absolutely should have expected that ANYBODY in that right lane could make a move for that exit as soon as the exit lane opened up. And that he would have to be prepared to yield to vehicles like that Silverado . That’s exactly the danger he signed up for when he decided to try that stupid stunt.

I had to look up the definition of a breakdown lane, so the jack ass was driving on the shoulder?

probably just an asshole.  There’s been a lot of kvetching on the news in MI about the huge increase in red-light-running.

yep

Kinja'd!!!

now this is allowed in in a certain stretch of highway but that was probably 10 miles ago and there are signs all over the place saying you can’ t do it any more.

yea, i would never have checked as I was exiting as there is no reason to.  Even the emergency vehicles dont really use that lane and they would have sirens going

Years ago, an old friend in his Office Space style Corolla got rear ended hard while exi ting, as a witless shithead was moving down the shoulder at 50 mph. He got a nice settlement out of it, although I might not trade it for the medical issues that followed.
